Home Remedy for Cold Sore
Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus. There are two types, called type 1 and type 2.
On the face, herpes simplex type 1 is more likely to recur than type 2. Either type can be caught on any part of the body, though
the lips and genitals are the most common places. Once you have caught this virus, it hides in nearby nerve sheaths and will
often reactivate.
You catch it the first time by being kissed by someone who has cold sore virus on his or her face. This this could have occured
years ago or quite recently. It is only caught by direct skin contact- not from towels, cups or cutlery.
Anyone can catch a cold sore although you cannot pass it to someone who already has them, not even to another part of the
body.
Cold sores are extremely common. Aproximately six in ten people carry the virus.
However, most of us don't know because we never notice symptoms. Only a quarter of the people who catch the cold sore virus will
notice any symptoms at all.
What does a cold sore like?
-
First a small sore patch appears.
- A larger blister develops leaving a raw area.
-
The raw area begins to heal and scab, causing a sometimes
unsightly eruption.
-
Simply talking or moving your mouth can cause the scab to
crack.
-
Picking or touching the scab will also retard
healing.
