Home Remedy for Head Louse

Head Louse are a playground nightmare for many parents. head lice are easily passed from child to child and can be very difficult to get rid off. There are several over the counter products for head lice but they often contain very strong ingredients such as kerosone and petroleum. Many parents are rightfully dubious about smearing such products onto their children's heads.

Many people are embarrased to admit their children have head lice as it is often wrongly associated with unwashed hair. This is untrue-Lice love long, clean hair.

Head lice are easier to control when caught early. I try to encourage parents to inspect their children’s hair daily.

Is there a home remedy for head louse?

The good news is there are home remedies for head lice without using harmful chemicals. Try a combination of any or all of these natural cures for Head lice and nits (nits are the unhatched eggs).

Home Remedy for Head Louse with Mayonaise

Cover the hair in a coat of mayonaise- be sure that all the hairs are thickly coated. Wrap clingfilm tightly round the hair and leave on for at least an hour, then wash thoroughly with a shampoo for greasy hair. You will possibly have to shampoo 2 or 3 times to rid the hair of the mayonaise.  Repeat every three days for two weeks.
