Fish Allergy Home Remedy

Fish allergy is a reaction of the body's immune system due to specific kinds of scaly and bony fishes like salmon, trout, halibut and cod. Usually, most of the food allergies develop in childhood, but fish allergy is a type of allergy that is most likely to happen in adulthood. Other fishes like Pollock, tuna, snapper, eel and tilapia that can also trigger fish allergy. It is quite severe, but with the help of home remedies for fish allergy, it can be easily avoided.

This type of allergy prevails in countries like Japan, Scandinavian, and Spain where fish is a staple food. It affects around 20 percent of the population.

In very high sensitive people, the mere smell of the food can trigger allergy. Foods cooked in reused oil or using utensils that have been used for storing and cooking fish can cause severe life threatening allergic reaction such as anaphylaxis and asthma.     This could lead to hives (urticaria), eczema, angioedema like swelling and itching.
  • Digestive System
    Upset stomach, vomiting, cramps, loose stools and gas.
  • Respiratory System
    Nasal congestion, wheezing, asthma, shortness of breath, fainting, heartburn.
  • Oral allergy symptoms

Here the mouth itches and there is a tingle after eating the fish which is an allergen.

  • Anaphylaxis is another symptom that causes a severe reaction in which the body releases histamines in large amounts causing the tissue to swell up. This can lead to a life threatening symptoms like gastrointestinal, breathing, cardiac problem.

Shellfish Allergy

This is another common type of food allergy that has a reaction to only a certain kind of shellfish that include marine animals with shells. Clams, lobster, shrimp, octopus and squid fall in this class.

    1. Caffeine is believed to be effective in the prevention and control of asthma attacks.
    2. Another alternate is the use of onions which have inflammatory properties that can reduce constriction of airways, common in asthma attacks. It can be taken raw or cooked, the effect is the same.

    1. Using a paste made of sandalwood and limejuice will provide an instant relief to the itching and rash.
    2. Having a glass of water that has 2 tablespoon of cider vinegar is a good home remedy for fish allergy.
    3. Using milk maqnesia helps in relieving the pain in hives. The only work you have to do is dab the milk of maqnesia on the infected area. It is an alkaline solution that removes the itchy sensation.
    4. Another home remedy for fish allergy is using lemon juice and coconut oil. Take 1 tablespoon of crushed poppy seeds with a teaspoon of limejuice and a teaspoon of water. Apply the paste on the affected area for quick heal from any kind of skin allergy.
    5. For mouth swelling, you can gargle with warm water and adding half teaspoon of turmeric to it. Chewing of parsley will also help to soothe the swollen mouth and tongue.

    1. Carom (ajwain) seeds are an effective remedy for nasal congestion.
    2. Use a drop or two of eucalyptus oil on a handkerchief or a cotton ball and keep it near the nose and breathe in to increase the airflow.
    3. Fruits, juice and teas are recommended during nasal congestion and plenty of rest should be taken.
    4. Another home remedy for fish allergy is eating food that is prepared by grating horseradish. To this a little honey or cider vinegar is added and should be eaten with a toast.

  • Home remedy for fish allergy, that cause digestive problems
    1. The best and easy home remedy is drinking a cup of green tea made from ginger, mint or cinnamon, chamomile. Add honey to the tea for a better taste.
    2. Another home remedy can be prepared by taking a teaspoon of coriander or caraway seeds with a cup of boiled water.
    3. In case of vomiting do not take any solid food for the first twelve hours. Limit to juices made of apple, carbonated juices, water.
    4. During the next twelve hours, eat bananas, boiled potatoes, peeled rice and soups.
    5. A cup of ginger tea is an effective home remedy. A mixture of honey with a powder of two roasted cardamoms can also be added.
    6. Another mixture is prepared using one teaspoon of mint juice, half a teaspoon of ginger juice and one teaspoon of lime juice. Take this mixture for an instant relief. To relax cramps a warm bath can help you in a great way. A hot cloth or a heating pad on the stomach can help relax the cramps.

Home remedies for fish allergies are not a new concept and is a traditional method for treating the fish allergy. They are made at home from most of the kitchen ingredients and also work out to be less expensive.
