Home Remedies for Back Pain
A pain in the back is referred as lumbago which ranges from mild to severe. The pain can be acute or chronic if the pain last for more than three months. The pain causes the muscles to go into spasm and further increase the pain. This can make you really feel uncomfortable and create a lot of discomfort. For low back pain
- For acute low back pain, this may last for a small period of time that is from few days to few weeks.
- In case of chronic low back pain, this may last longer than three months.
- The low back pain does not spread down into the leg.
Other symptoms for back pain are:
- Mild pain in the hip or part of the leg
- Sharp pain which can spread down to the leg and cause numbness in certain areas of the leg
- The pain can become worse while you cough or sneeze
- The pain in most cases is located on one side and this may gradually spread to both the legs especially when the disc is holding the nerve roots of both the legs.
- You may feel the pain to become worse while sitting or standing in one place for a longer period of time.
There are some very effective home remedies for the pain relief which have been used since ages. Below are some of them which are safer as compared to drugs and medication for pain relieving.
- Soak about 60grams of wheat overnight and the next morning add some equal parts of poppy seeds and coriander. Mix these ingredients well, and make a paste out of them. Add this paste in about 250 grams of milk and allow this to boil until the liquid is reduced to half. This is not only effective for back pain but also makes the digestive system stronger.
- You can further use the powder form of poppy seeds and some sugar candy and have this with a glass of milk. This is effective for both back ache and head ache.
- If you are prone to body and back ache, start your day by drinking warm water mixed with honey. This is the simplest remedy and works well to reduce the pain.
- Garlic is also effective for back pain. You can simply have this raw in the morning in empty stomach with a glass of water. Another way is add some garlic to the oil like mustard, sesame or coconut oil and use this to massage the back. This helps you to get some instant relief from back ache.
- Another alternative is to massage your back and can be done using mint oil. This is helpful to relief the pain.
- For some immediate relief from back pain, you can try out some hot fomentation or a sponge which is warm enough to reduce the pain. The heat is radiated to the back and helps in giving you some instant relief.
- Another alternative to the above remedy is using hot water bottle or an infrared lamp that will temporary relief your back ache.
- You can also massage your back using some turpentine oil. This is effective and has proved to be beneficial to relief the pain.
- Potatoes are also effective to give some relief from back ache. Prepare a poultice using raw potato and use this to relieve you from any kind of back pain.
- Lemon juice is effective to reduce the pain. All you got to do is prepare lemon juice and add a pinch of salt to it. The patient should take this two times a day to lessen the pain.
- Firm mattress prevents back pains. Therefore avoid sleeping on soft mattress and cushions. Keep changing your positions frequently as this may be another cause for back pain.
During pregnancy, back pain is a common problem faced by many expecting mothers. Some of the home remedies for back pain during pregnancy are given below:
- A gentle and soothing massage is effective to reduce the pain.
- A hot water bath or a hot dag is effective to reduce the ache. This will reduce the muscle tension and make you feel relaxed.
- You can use a pillow for support purpose while you are sleeping. This helps to reduce the pain. You can use this while sitting and driving as well.
In addition to the above home remedies for back pain, take proper rest and sleep which is helpful to cure any kind of ache. Whenever you feel that your back aches, you just have to simply lie down and rest flat on the bed for few hours.
