Home remedies for bags under eyes are highly effective and easy to follow. When someone wakes up after a pretty good sleep, and still sees the puffs or bags under eyes, then it is the time to take care of your eyes.

Causes of Bags under Eyes/Puffiness:

  • Aging: Natural fat exists under the eyes. The ligaments hold it properly. When ligaments grow weak, they allow the fats to loosen and form puffs under the eyes.
  • Genetic issue: In some cases the puffy eyes are heredity.
  • Salty food: Salty food retains water in body, which leads to puffy eyes.

  • Hollow spaces below eyes: Smoking, nasal congestion, irregularities in pigmentation, loss of collagen in the skin etc. creates hollow spaces in the skin. This forms bags under eyes.

Home Remedies for Bags under Eyes:

  • Potatoes: Peel off a raw potato and grate it well. Wrap it in a clean cloth and apply the potato poultice to your eyes. Lie down with closed eyes for fifteen minutes. The anti-inflammatory properties in potatoes help to reduce redness and irritation of eyes. Starch in potatoes, reduces the bags under eyes.

  • Tea bags: Put the tea bags in boiling water for five minutes. Keep it aside to cool. Close your eyes relax and place the tea bag over each eye. Lie as it is for fifteen minutes. This is excellent remedy to reduce bags under eyes. Tannins, the natural astringent in the tea, tighten the blood vessels and the skin under the eyes.

  • Cucumbers: Slice the cucumber in thin circular shapes. Close your eyes and place these pieces on the eyes and lie down for fifteen minutes. You can apply a poultice of grated cucumber on eyes. Lie down for fifteen minutes. Astringent in cucumber tightens the skin under eyes, and reduces bags under eyes.

  • Basil tea with potato and cucumber: Take some basil leaves and boil in 1.5 cup of water to make it 1 cup. Grate cucumber and raw potato and prepare a consistent mixture. Strain extra water and add this pulp in the basil tea. Prepare the cubes of this mixture by freezing it in ice tray. Dab this 'medicinal ice cube' on your eyes for some time. Wash you eyes and gently pat dry. Slowly press along the eyebrow and eye socket, which helps to reduce fluid retention. This is one of the proven remedies to reduce bags under eyes.

  • Take a rounded metal spoon and keep it in deep freezer for sometime. Take it out and hold it over your eyes. It helps to reduce bags under the eyes.

  • While sleeping at night, place the pillow at a raised level. It helps to avoid fluid retention around eyes, and prevents forming bags under eyes.

  • Witch Hazel: Soak clean pieces of cloth or cotton in Witch Hazel, and keep it on the eyes. Close your eyes and relax for 10 to 15 min. Witch Hazel, an herb having excellent astringent reduces bags under eyes.

  • Ice cold milk: Soak clean soft cotton cloth or cotton wool in ice cold milk. Lie down, close your eyes and place the pads on your eyes. When the pads become warm, remove it. It helps to reduce bags under eyes.

  • Egg Whites and Witch Hazel: Take only egg whites and beat it well. Add few drops of Witch Hazel. Gently apply it under eyes. It tightens the skin and avoids bags under eyes.

  • Honey and Almond oil: Mix honey and almond oil. Gently apply this on your eyes in a circular motion before going to sleep. It improves the circulation, relaxes eyes and helps to get rid of many eye problems including bags under eyes.

  • Take ice cold water and soak cotton balls or clean cotton cloth in it. Close your eyes and place the cotton balls or cloth pieces on eyes. Remove it when it feels warm. Repeat it as per your convenience, say min. 4 to 5 times. It helps to drain the bags under eyes.

  • Soak the cotton balls in rose water or cold milk. Place it on closed eyes and lie as it is for 15 to 20 minutes. It relaxes the eyes and reduces the bags under eyes, redness and burning sensation.

  • Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera is an excellent herb which is highly recommended for many skin problems. Apply Aloe Vera extract in the natural form or Aloe gels available in the market around eyes. Close your eyes and relax for some time. It is as excellent remedy for bags under eyes.

  • Take a cup of hot water and add one teaspoon salt to it. Soak the cotton balls in it. Squeeze excess water and feel the hotness that eyes should bear it. Place it on closed eyes for 5 to 10 min. When the pad cools down, squeeze out and repeat it several times. It gives relief from the bags under eyes.
