Home Remedies for Bedwetting

One of major cause of embarrassment for many kids is bedwetting. This is also known as nighttime incontinence or commonly called nocturnal enuresis. Generally, children below the age of 6 or 7 suffer from this condition. However, the condition isn't a cause of major concern and can be treated with a little patience and understanding.

Medication does not offer 100% cure and it is observed that the condition resumes when ever the drug or medications is stopped. Nevertheless there are some effective home remedies for bedwetting which are completely natural and safe as most of the ingredients used are natural and prepared at home.

Causes of Bedwetting

The major cause of bedwetting is not known. However, some factors play an important role in bedwetting such as:

  • A small bladder The bladder of the child may not be developed fully to hold the urine during the whole night and may result in bedwetting.
  • Hormone imbalance This may be due to lack of anti-diuretic hormone that may be responsible to not slow down the night time production of urine.
  • Stress Stressful events can also be the causes for bedwetting.
  • Urinary tract infection Infections of the urinary tract can also make the child difficult to control urination.
  • Inability to recognize the full bladder If the nerves are not developed fully then this may also be one of the causes of bedwetting.

Other causes:

  • Sleep apnea
  • Diabetes
  • Anatomical defect
  • Chronic constipation

Symptoms of Bedwetting:

  • The most common symptoms of enuresis are uncontrolled bedwetting which is completely unintentional.
  • Wetting during the day
  • Uncontrolled bowel movements which may result in soiling
  • Pinkish cloudy urine
  • Along with urination other unusual symptoms associated are straining and dribbling.

Tests and diagnosis of bedwetting:

A physical exam of the child is a common test to diagnose the problem. Urine test can be done to see and check any kind of infection or diabetes. X-rays and other imaging studies of the bladders and kidneys can also be done to check if there is any anatomical abnormality or any other problem the child may be suffering from.

Home Remedies for Bedwetting using cranberry juice and walnut halves

  • One of the best and effective home remedy for bedwetting is cranberry juice. For this you need to give your child a doze of six to eight oz. of the juice just before an hour he or she goes to sleep.
  • Another mixture which is also good to reduce bedwetting is to give your child two teaspoon of walnut halves along with a teaspoon of raisins. This should be given just before going to bed.

Home Remedies for Bedwetting using herbs

  • Some herbs are also found to be effective for reducing bedwetting. Herbs like causticum, ursi, pulsatilla, lycopodium and corn silk are known to cure this problem.
  • A drink of some pure and natural herbal tea prepared from herbs such as oak bark, bearberry, wormwood and horsetail are all effective for reducing the condition. This is one of the good home remedies for bedwetting.

Home Remedies for Bedwetting sarson powder and cinnamon bark

  • A small amount of sarson powder mixed in a glass of milk should be given few hours before the child goes to sleep. This helps to stop the bedwetting problem and is one of the good old home remedies for bedwetting.
  • Another method is to allow your child to chew a cinnamon bark once a day which help reducing the bedwetting problem.

Home Remedies for Bedwetting by massage

  • Therapist suggests that a massage around the pelvic area is sure to benefit the child from bedwetting related problems. This helps to tone the bladder muscles and helps the child to hold and control micturation.
  • Another thing which should be kept in mind is not to feed the child with water two to four hours before he or she goes to sleep.
  • Some of the studies reveal that food products basically diary food items such as soy, eggs, wheat and caffeine in any forms may irritate the bladder and work as diuretics and should be restricted in excess. This is some preventive measures that can be taken to stop bedwetting.

Home Remedies for Bedwetting using fruits and vegetables

  • Fruits like bananas are good to stop the bedwetting problem. Give your child a banana to eat everyday which will reduce the problem to a greater extent.
  • Fresh and green leafy vegetables along with seasonal fruits are effective to reduce the condition. Food rich in fiber content are also effective to avoid the bedwetting problem.
  • Silica, calcium and magnesium should be included in the diet. This helps in getting rid of bedwetting problem. Apart from this include in the diet milk, almonds and sesame which are also effective.

In addition to the home remedies for bedwetting, control your child's diet for instance avoids excess of sweets, meat and fruits and other processed food in the diet. Fruits like apples, grapes, oranges and pineapples may give a way to bedwetting problems. And hence such fruits should be avoided.
