Home Remedies for Boils
Boils are pus-filled bumps which can be extremely painful. This is usually found under the skin and is formed because of the bacteria that infect one or more of the hair follicles. These are some common skin ailments which can vanish within a week's time by following some home remedies for boils. Boils are generally harmless but if you get multiple of these pus filled bumps you may end up having swollen lymph nodes and fever.
Causes for Boils:
These lumps at first are small in size but they tend to grow larger and are quickly filled with pus. The pain increases when the skin of the boil ruptures and drains off the pus.
- Infection of the tube shaped shafts from where the hair grows leads to boils.
- Staph bacteria are one of the major bacteria that can cause boils. These generally enter the skin through a cut or any kind of scratch or a break on the skin. Such kind of wounds triggers the white blood cells and rush to the site of injury to fight the infection. This results in inflammation which finally leads to the formation of pus filled boils.
Symptoms for Boils:
These pus filled boils can generally occur in any part of the skin. However, you can mainly see them on the neck, armpits, face, buttocks and thighs. These areas are prone to such kind of boils because these areas are hair bearing areas and are likely to sweat and experience friction. The common symptoms for these skin irritations are listed below:
- A red colored and painful bump
- The bump can gradually increase in size within a week
- The skin around the boil becomes bumpy and swollen
- You can notice a yellow-white tip on the boil which eventually raptures and drains off the pus
After the boil drains off the pain subsides gradually until it vanishes completely. In case of small boils there may be no scarring while in the case of large boils there may be scars left behind.
The main objective of the home remedies is to release the pus as easily as possible and finally reduce the pain. These remedies are very simple to prepare and can be prepared from most of the ingredients available in the kitchen.
- Try to treat the infection using some garlic. One of the best medicine in Ayurveda, it can be used for many other severe diseases. To treat the bump of pus you simply have to apply some extract of garlic over the infected area. This will kill the germs and will help to release the pus and ultimately reduce the pain. Try adding some of them in the diet.
- Milk and milk cream are effective to reduce the problem. This helps to soften the boil and opens the mouth of the boil to release the pus. You can also try using some bread slice and soak them in the milk and put this on the boil area. This will soften the boil and release the pus out.
- Onions are effective to treat boils. All you need to do is get some extract of onions and apply them in the same manner as you applied like in the case of garlic. Include raw onions in your diet to fasten the healing process. You can include both the extract of onion and garlic on the infected area.
- The margosa leaves or more commonly known as the neem leaves in India along with betel leaves are effective to treat boils. The first thing you got to do is take some betel leaves and allow them to simmer in water until they become soft. Further you add some castor oil on it. Now after it cools a bit place these leaves on the boils and gently cover the infected area.
- Another alternate method is boiling some 20-25 margosa leaves in half liter of water. Boil this for about fifteen minutes and then later allow this to cool. After this apply on the infected area in this case the boils. The method will gradually open up the mouth of the boil and this may finally hasten the healing process.
- Bitter gourd too can work wonders in the healing process of boils. Use some of the extract of the vegetable and apply this on the infected area. This will be effective as this kills the germs and is perfect for soothing process. You can have the extract as well by adding few drops of lemon juice. Drink this in empty stomach and continue for a week so as to kill the germs of the boils completely.
- A very old and traditional way to treat any kind of skin infections such as boils is by using turmeric. You simply have to roast some turmeric in a very low flame. Add some water to make a paste out of it and apply this in and around the boil. The turmeric is known to mature the boils and hasten the release of pus.
- Another option you can try out is to mix some powdered cumin seeds in some water and finely make a paste. Use this and apply on the infected area. This too will help to release the pus and kill the germs as well.
In addition to the home remedies for Boils, include a balanced diet and keep your body healthy and strong enough to prevent such kind of infections. Regular exercises and proper cleaning of the body will all help you reduce the chances of getting these painful and troublesome boils!
