- Use a combination of cooking oil, white vinegar, a bit of alcohol and some liquid soap that can be applied to stain on the leather with the help of a sponge. This can easily wipe away the dirt.
- You can also apply a little amount of petroleum jelly or castor oil with a cloth or the fingers and finally wipe the excess dirt with a buff and a soft cloth.

- Cornstarch can help you to remove stains. Rub a small amount of cornstarch onto the stain until the leather warms up. For the excess powder you can simply use a brush. Sometimes you need to be a little patient as the stain may not go away easily and may require some extra sprinkle of cornstarch on the stain. Corn starch has a very beneficial property as this can absorb oil easily and very effectively.
- Cuticle removers are also perfect to clean spots and ink stains on the leather. You simply have to dab the leather with the remover and let this sit for sometime say ten minutes and then gradually use a soft cloth that will wipe and remove the stains. Depending on the stains you may have to this more than once.
For all those leather shoes that may have grass of blood stains, you can try the following methods:
- Athletic shoes may have grass stains so all you got to do is use some molasses which is a thick solution prepared from refined sugar syrup. Massage the molasses on the stains and leave this overnight. After this wash this off with soap and water.
- You can also use a moisturizing bath soap to clean the leather athletic shoes or any such kind of leather items.
- To remove blood stains from leather shoes, you simply have to apply a little amount of hydrogen peroxide. After it foams up, use a paper towel to bloat the stain until it is gone.
To remove mildew from the leather items you can try one of the following methods:
- Use a small amount of petroleum jelly on the leather item and allow this to sit for at least five hours. You can then use a soft cloth to rub of the dirt and fungus until this goes completely.
- A solution of rubbing alcohol along with water is ideal to clean away the mildew from the leather items. Allow this to dry and finally wash this with some soapy water if you can still some mildew left.
- Antiseptic oil, tea tree oil and anti bacterial essential oil helps to kill mold, mildew and other bacteria from the leather items.
- A solution of the tea tree oil on leather products can remove the molds effectively. You can use them in leather shoes, handbags, wallets as well. This further eliminates the worst mold odors.
You can also condition leather items like jackets and other items by preparing a conditioning mixture:
- For this you'll need 3 1/2 cups of olive oil, a half cup castile soap, few drops of essential oil that will help to get rid of the smell and grapefruit seed extract and half a gallon of water. Mix these well and use a small amount of this mixture on the stains or you can use them to condition your leather items.
- To clean up your leather jacket, you can simply make use of a light cloth and a spray cleaner to clean off the dust from the shell of your jacket.
- You can also use a damp sponge with a little bit of a saddle soap and wipe the leather jacket. Finally dry this with a towel to give a clean, soft and a smooth feel.
- Try to condition your leather regularly so as to prevent cracks. Use a bit of the leather conditioner and wipe the jacket.
- A very effective method to clean stains from the leather jacket is by a white pencil eraser.
