Home Remedies for Dry Brittle Hair

A common problem of the hair is when it becomes dry and brittle. But due to the maximum number of exposure to sunlight and humidity it may result in dry, frizzy and brittle hair. Under healthy conditions, the moisture content is about 10%, but this may however be affected by sunrays which is as harmful as a hot blow dyer.

There are many factors like environment exposure or there may be lack of less adequate hair oil production called sebum. This sebum is secreted from sebaceous glands which is commonly associated with follicle pores. The underactive and overactive production of this oil can either cause dry and brittle hair or cause oily scalp. Colder temperature and low humidity in the environment can slow down the sebum production can cause excessive dryness of hair. Nevertheless you can always try out some home remedies for dry brittle hair.

Most of us suffer from dry and brittle hair because the hair is more prominent to lose moisture. It is said about 90% have this problem once or more in their lifetime. When hair is dry it becomes more prone to breakage, therefore the only way to treat the brittleness is to treat the dryness of the hair. Some of the methods are given below:

  • Coconut milk is highly beneficial for the treatment of dry brittle hair. You can mix these with two tablespoon of gram flour and apply directly on the scalp. Massage these gently and rinse your hair after five minutes. These should be done once a week and is very effective for dry and brittle hair.
  • A home made conditioner can also be made using castor oil, a teaspoon of cider vinegar, a tablespoon of glycerin and a teaspoon of protein of a mild herbal shampoo. This should be applied on the scalp and be left for at least twenty minutes before rinsing.
  • For dry hair, you can also use almond or olive oil which should be warmed a bit and gently massage the scalp.
  • Another remedy that can be prepared at home is heating slightly a teaspoon of lavender oil with that of coconut oil. Massage the scalp with this at night and wash away the oil the very next morning. Apart from treating the dry and brittleness of the hair, it also brings about the softness and shine of hair.
  • The deficiency in mineral zinc can also be a reason for dry brittle hair. Therefore increase the intake of food rich in zinc.
  • Vinegar can help you treat the dry hair which is a great conditioner. Apart from this it can also improve the shine and cleanliness. For this you have to add a tablespoon of vinegar to the hair and rinse this after few minutes. This can also help to remove dandruff which may be another reason for dry brittle hair. This should be done several times a week just before you shampoo. Massage the vinegar into the scalp or simply soak in bucket containing water and vinegar.
  • Apple cider vinegar is another alternative that help to treat the problem. Drape your hair into a 1/4 cup of the vinegar in a basin which will control the dandruff and also gives a healthy shine to the hair.
  • Eggs, a rich protein diet acts as a natural conditioner also improves the hair growth. For this you need to whip one egg with a little amount of tepid water and use this to lather the hair. This is a pre-shampoo conditioning that is used for deep treatment for damaged dry brittle hair.
  • You can prepare a conditioner with eggs. For this you simply need three eggs and two tablespoon of olive oil along with sunflower oil with one teaspoon of vinegar. Mix them well and apply onto the tresses and use a plastic cap to cover it. Leave this for thirty minutes and shampoo this as usual. This is improves dry brittle hair.
  • Seeds and nuts contain fatty acids which help to bring the healthy shine of the hair.

Other remedies you can try at home which is available in the kitchen are given below:

  • Avocado and banana that can be smashed if they are over ripe and use them and spread in the hair and leave this for half an hour before you rinse them with warm water.
  • For that extra shine, you can also go for beer which can help to restore the natural shine of the hair. Use this only after you shampooed your hair and rinse your hair with a little amount of beer.
  • Another a paste that can be used for the hair is a paste prepared from honey and vegetable oil which moisturize and masks the hair. Leave this for 10-20 minutes and cover this with a plastic wrap. Use shampoo to wash this off as usual.

These home remedies for dry brittle hair are environmental friendly as this does not contain any harsh chemicals and are extremely cost effective. These are completely safe and natural and are passed down for generations. Apart from this go for a healthy diet which will improve the health of your hair and relieve you from dry, brittle and breakage hair.
