Edema is the swelling of the tissue of the body due to the excess of fluid trapped. Though it can affect any part of the body, it is most likely to affect the arms, hands, feet, ankles and legs.   • Puffiness of the tissue or swelling under the skin.
  • Stretched or shiny skin
  • A dimple that is retained on the skin after the skin is pressed several seconds
  • Abdominal size increase.

Tests and Diagnose for Edema

The doctor may undergo some physical exam and medical history to confirm the condition. The following are the tests that may help in identifying the cause:

  • Urinalysis
  • Blood tests
  • Measuring the pressure in certain blood vessels like that in the jugular vein.
  • An X-ray test on the chest

Home Remedies for Edema using mustard oil and apple cider vinegar

  • One of the best home remedies for edema is mustard oil. You can use this oil and massage on the affected area for quite sometime.
  • There is another method which is done by soaking 2 teaspoon of mustard seeds in a glass of water and use the solution on the affected area.
  • Apple cider vinegar is an excellent treatment for edema. The vinegar reduces and gets rid of the excess fluid in the cells and cavities.

  • Ground flaxseeds are also beneficial for edema. You can either sprinkle the powder the seeds on the food or there is another way to take the seed is in the form of oil.
  • Flax seeds are extremely good and safe for pregnant women having edema.
  • Water or tea helps to remove the excess salt from the body. And thus this reduces the swelling of the tissues which is caused by sodium.

Home Remedies for Edema using barely water and coriander seeds

  • Barely water is one of the most effective treatments for edema in pregnant women. It reduces edema which is commonly associated with pregnancy.
  • If two tablespoon of coriander seed is boiled in two cups of water, it becomes effective for the treatment of edema. Boil the quantity till the water becomes half and then consume the solution after it cools.

  • Swimming is a very good exercise which will help to reduce the swelling and get rid of the excess fluid. While swimming the pressure around the body exerts a pressure on the tissues which expels the excess fluid from the body that goes into the bladder.
  • If you experience edema in the foot or legs then simply lift the legs up with the help of a pillow while sleeping. This reduces edema to a greater extend.
  • For pregnancy related edema, try keeping the feet for ten minutes under running cold water. This will relief the pain and uneasiness associated with edema.
  • Well water can be beneficial and also can trigger factors for edema. In such a case reduce the intake of water for a couple of days to see if the edema subsides.

  • A well-balanced diet is beneficial for edema and should include all the nutrition and minerals that are beneficial for the treatment of edema.
