This mainly begins around the age of 35 years. It is recommended that 1000 milligrams of calcium each day is a basic requirement for a premenopausal woman and about 1500 milligrams for a postmenopausal woman.

  • A cooling aromatherapy for the face is prepared from 1/4 cup of aloe Vera juice, 1/4 cup of rosewater and few drops of lavender essential oil or rose. Mix these ingredients properly and store in a glass bottle. Shake this well and moisten the skin whenever you get those hot flashes.

  • Hot flashes may be triggered by hot weather, stress and caffeine. Keep a track for a week or two and discover the triggering elements. Avoid or eliminate these elements and you can see the difference!
  • If you are likely to get hot flash at night, always keep a thermos of ice water or ice pack near your bed.
  • Wear clothes made of absorbent material like that of cotton.
  • Always keep a small fan on the night table or desk and switch it on whenever you are hit by hot flashes.
  • Take vitamin E supplements which are useful to treat hot flashes.
  • Cool off with running water and allow it to run over the wrists and splash on the face to cool you off. You can also take a cool shower to feel better.
  • Finally and the most important avoid caffeine, alcohol, nicotine and other stimulants that causes the blood vessels to dilate and makes the body more prone to hot flashes.
