Home Remedies for Leucoderma
Leucoderma is a condition of the skin also known as vitiligo in which skin becomes either white or light colored. These skin patches may be acquired at the time of birth. However, these may be broadly classified into congenital and acquired skin patch which may be a result of reasons. The white congenital patch is not of much importance as it may be due to birthmarks. Whereas the acquired patches may develop because of a disease and this is known as leucoderma.
Leucoderma is not a contagious disease and does not spread by touching and handling food or belongings of the person. This is not a common disorder and affects only one percent or more of the population in the world. You can however undergo some of the home remedies for leucoderma to reduce the symptoms associated with the condition. According to a survey, it is found to occur more in women than men and can occur at any age.
Causes of Leucoderma
The exact cause of leucoderma is not yet figured. However, there are number of theories that give the causes of the skin condition and among them only three have been widely accepted.
- The first theory is that the immune system mistakes the pigment cells for some foreign particles which are thought to be harmful for the body and as a result destroys them.
- The second theory is that that there are certain chemical agents in the body which destroys the cells generating the pigments.
- The final theory states that some of the cells get destroyed due to the exposure to chemicals.
Other possible causes of leucoderma are listed below:
- Sunburn
- Skin trauma
- Mental stress
- About 30% of the patients have such kind of skin disorder and hence hereditary may be another reason for the skin disorder
- Physical illness
Symptoms of Leucoderma
The common signs of the skin conditions are:
- Loss of hair or alopecia
- Gray color of the hair
- The disease usually starts with a small spot which may later turn milky white.
- Sensitivity to cold
- Lassitude and weakness
- In some of the cases the patches cover the entire body.
The spread of the skin disorder over the entire body is usually slow and progressive. This may appear symmetrically on both sides of the body like hands, legs etc. Indeed, it is rare that the condition can spread over the entire body.
Home Remedies for Leucoderma using radish seeds and goosefoot vegetable
- A paste prepared from radish seeds is effective for the treatment of leucoderma. Use 25 gm of the seeds and powder them and use two teaspoon of vinegar to prepare a paste and apply on the affected area.
- One of the valuable home remedies for leucoderma is the goosefoot vegetable. This vegetable can be used as internal therapy and the extracted juice of the vegetable can be used on the affected area. This therapy should be continued for two months or more to see some effective results.
Home Remedies for Leucoderma using turmeric and psoralea
- Turmeric is one of the common home remedies for leucoderma or any kind of skin disorder. Use 500 gm of turmeric and soak in eight liters of water. Boil this for as long as the water is reduced to one liter. After straining the water, add about a little say half a liter of mustard oil and mix them well. The mixture should be applied on the affected white patches. This should be continued for at least 2 to 3 months.
- Another best home remedies for leucoderma is the seeds of psoralea. The psoralea are steeped with ginger juice for duration of three days. The water is changed on daily basis and on the third day, the seeds are rubbed to remove the husk. Powder them when the seeds are dried and a gm of the powder is consumed with a glass of milk and continued for a month.
- The seeds of psoralea can also be used to make a paste and directly applied on the patches to reduce the symptoms of the condition.
Home Remedies for Leucoderma using red clay and ginger
- A skin mask can be prepared from red clay which is mixed with equal proportion of ginger juice. This is applied once a day on the affected area.
- Drinking water from copper clay which is kept overnight is effective and can also aid in reducing leucoderma. This re-establishes the skin pigments which may otherwise be lost.
- The juice of ginger can act as a mild stimulant which enables the increase flow of blood on the affected area.
Home Remedies for Leucoderma using ayurveda herbs
- Neem or margosa leaves have some proven qualities which can treat any kind of skin condition which includes leucoderma. You can either go for the juice of the neem leaves or consume the extracted capsules of neem. This is also one of the good home remedies for leucoderma.
- Basil leaves can also be used in the treat of leucoderma. This is better if consumed raw or you can also prepare decoction of the leaves and stems.
- An ayurvedic drug called haritaki can be used on the affected area using garlic juice.
- One of the simple home remedies for leucoderma is pomegranate leaves. Dry the leaves in shade and grind them until it becomes fine. Consume eight gram of the powder after its sieved and take it in the morning and evening along with fresh water.
In addition to all the home remedies for leucoderma, include a well-balanced diet fresh vegetable and fruit juices and avoid other unhealthy and junk food and stimulating beverages. And also restrict your diet with less sour tested and salty food and also avoid non-vegetarian food like red meat and fish.
