Home Remedies for Pigmentation

Pigmentation is the coloring of the skin. These cells called melanin are responsible for making the skin color. When these cells are damaged or become unhealthy, they affect and cause patches on the skin. Some important terms used in pigmentation are hyper pigmentation for excess of pigments, hypo pigmentation and under pigmentation for very less pigments and depigmentation for loss of pigments. Nevertheless, if you are looking for some natural and safe way of treating it, opt for some home remedies for pigmentation.

Causes of Pigmentation

The pigmentation on the face may be due to melasma, age spots or may be also due to excessive skin tanning. You may also get pigmentation because of uneven healing of pimples, freckles, acne marks or as a reaction to medicines like cosmetic products.

Hyper pigmentation is a condition of the skin which is although harmless can turn out to be very ugly. This is because the skin becomes darker than before and there may be many visible dark patches.

Below are some remedies which you can try at home for the treatment of pigmentation.

  • Avocado is a rich source of unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E and oleic acid which can be very helpful for the treatment of pigmentation and hyper pigmentation. First, peel the avocado and mash it to get some juice. Apply the juice on the affected area on daily basis.
  • Cocoa butter is also effective for pigmentation. Use this to massage the skin and continue for about two to three weeks. This is an anti oxidant and is a natural skin moisturizer. A good massage helps blood circulation and breaks away the scar tissue which is a result of pigmentation.
  • The juice of raw potato is also effective for pigmentation. Potato has a natural bleaching property due to the presence of starch. This can be used for the treatment of pigmentation. Use this on the affected area and continue it for at least ten days to see some positive results.
  • Another natural and home based method is to treat pigmentation is by using lime or some lemon and also honey. Honey is known to be a natural moisturizer and helps in the skin lightening which will be beneficial for the treatment of pigmentation. For this use some equal quantity of lime and lemon with some honey and mix these well before applying on the affected area.

Pigmentation and hyper pigmentation may be a result of hormonal imbalance or any changes in the levels of hormones in the blood. Some other methods that you can try out to treat the skin problem are:

  • Hydrogen peroxide of about 20 volumes can be used in the treatment. To the solution add two teaspoon of milk powder and to this add few drops of glycerin and then mix these well. Apply this mixture on the affected area and leave this for about twenty minutes before you rinse it with water. After drying it, use some moisturizer on the affected area.
  • Vinegar can also be used to clean the skin. Use equal amount of vinegar and water and use this to rinse the affected area. Allow this to air dry. Vinegar contains acetic acid which helps you to get rid of the dark color due to pigmentation. This solution leaves the skin smooth and radiant as well. You can also go for apple cider vinegar which is found effective for the treatment of pigmentation.
  • A common kitchen ingredient which is frequently used in cooking is the onions. Extract some good amount of juice from onions and used this in the treatment of pigmentation. Take some slice of onions and blend this in a blender and using a muslin cloth squeeze the contents and use this juice. To this mix some equal quantity of apple cider vinegar and apply on the face or any other affected area. This is also found effective in the treatment of pigmentation and hyper pigmentation.
  • Orange peel should be dried and powdered and mixed with some raw milk to prepare a paste which can be used on the face or any part of the body. This helps to remove the top layer of the skin and as such makes the spots to fade.
  • Use a mixture of equal proportion of lemon juice and cucumber juice and used on the pigmented area that will lighten the spots and reduce the pigmentation to a greater extent.
  • You can also use some capsules of vitamin E and add some few drops of castor oil. Use this and gently spread on the affected area to get rid of the pigmentation.

Below are some lists of Indian home remedies for pigmentation:

  • The cream of fresh milk with some drops of lemon should be applied on the face to reduce the pigmentation.
  • Basil leaves are also effective for pigmentation. Prepare a paste of basil leaves and add some lemon juice to this to prevent any kind of marks which may be a result of pigmentation.
  • Cumin seed are also effective for marks and scars. Boil some of the seeds in water and allow this to cool. Use this water to wash the face or any affected area. This will help to get rid of the pigmentation.

Apart from all these home remedies for pigmentation, a healthy diet will help to get rid and prevent ant scars and pigmentation on the skin. For e.g. sprouted grams, fruits and a well-balanced diet is highly effective for any skin related problem. Avoid eating excess of spicy and oily food, chocolates, pastries and other junk food. In addition to this avoid smoking and drinking alcohol as well.
