Home Remedies for Plantar Warts

Plantar warts are warts that grow on the soles of the feet. These skin growths are non cancerous which commonly develops beneath the pressure points of the feet which generally refers to the heels and balls of the feet. In most cases, these aren't a big health issue! In fact, these can be cured and treated using some simple home remedies for plantar warts.

Plantar warts heal on its own within some short time. Sometimes, these can grow into deeper layers of the skin and it can become difficult to treat them using these simple home remedies. There are conventional treatments for such types of warts as well. However, at times both of these home remedies and conventional treatments do not ensure 100 percent cure. These warts have also the tendency to recur. Hence, in such a severe condition surgeries may be required.

Causes of Plantar Warts:

These can occur when a virus called HPV or the human papillomavirus that can enter via small cuts and breaks on the skin. There are about 100 types of HPV and some of these are responsible for causing warts on the hands, fingers and near the fingernails and some other types causes warts on the feet.

  • Walking barefoot in public places such as swimming areas, locker rooms, shower floors can cause the skin infection. This is because the virus thrives on warm and moist surroundings.
  • This is a highly contagious disease which can pass from one person to another.
  • The virus can also spread to other places of the foot by scratching and touching.
  • The skin shed from the wart or blood oozing from it can spread the infection. So avoid any such contact with the skin or blood.
  • Low immune system of the body can also be responsible for plantar warts.

Symptoms for Plantar Warts:

The common symptoms you may experience with these are listed below:

  • The warts can be tiny, grain-like bumps, fleshy which appear on the soles of the feet.
  • These are usually flat growths that are rough and hard that has well-defined boundaries.
  • You may feel pain or tenderness while walking.
  • The color of such warts is usually gray or brown or can be more black points that are small are clotted blood vessels.
  • These bumps can interrupt the normal ridges and lines of the skin on the feet.

    These warts occur in people that have either damaged skin or a cut skin and to those who have a weak immune system. The common victims to warts are especially teenagers and children. Some of the simple remedies that you can prepare at home to treat such skin growths are listed below:

    • Vinegar is very good for plantar warts especially apple cider vinegar. You need to soak a cotton ball in the solution and secure it to the area with the help of a tape. This should be done before you go to sleep and continue for about a week to see the difference.
    • You can also cover the wart with a duct tape to get rid of the warts. Follow this for about two weeks. You can also use apple cider vinegar along with the duct tape.
    • Prepare a paste of baking soda and castor oil. Use only 2-3 drops of the oil and cover the affected wart with a bandage. You can also use castor oil alone and bandage the affected area.
    • A raw potato slice can also help heal the warts. You can rub the slice of potato on the affected area or simply place a refrigerated potato slice on it and bandage it properly.
    • Salicylic acid is another plantar wart treatment. This is easily available in the local health drug store which can be effective to remove warts within few weeks time. The application of the acid should be done on daily basis and should be continued until it gets heal. You can prepare a solution or as a simple patch to rub the dead skin from the warts.
    • Another very simple method to treat plantar warts is to use a banana peel and tape this to the affected wart. This is best when done at night.
    • If you get plantar warts on the foot, you simply have to place the feet in freezing cold water for about 15-20 minutes that will kill the virus causing the warts. Scrape the dead cells with the help of pumice stone.
    • Garlic which is anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory and anti- bacterial can aid in the treatment of plantar warts. You can use garlic oil capsule. You need to be brake and press the ingredients of the capsule on the warts. This may take a longer time to heal or about a month.

    Preventive measures and tips for plantar warts

    These tips and preventive measures will reduce any kind of risk involve in plantar warts.

    • As this is highly contagious, hence avoid direct contacts with warts.
    • Keep the feet and other prone areas for the infections clean and dry.
    • If you see any kind of the warts on your skin, do not pick as this may spread the virus.
    • Do not use the same filer, pumice stone or a nail clipper on the healthy skin as on your warts.
    • Maintain a god personal hygiene such as cleaning your hands after touching the affected area.

    The above home remedies for plantar warts along with a healthy lifestyle will help to heal the skin growth within a short span of time. Do consult the doctor if the wart does not heal.
