Ragweed is a common type of plant also called bitter weeds or blood weeds. The scientific name of ragweed is Ambrosia, which is derived from Ancient Greek. The plant is from the family of sunflower called Asteraceae. It is well-known for producing pollens which causes severe allergies. It produces one billion pollen grains and it can go up to 400 miles out in the sea and 2 miles in the atmosphere. The pollen count is largest after dawn.

The apt condition for ragweed is dry, sandy soils, river banks, grassy plains, roadsides, and poor soil structure sites. They grow more in temperate region of South America and northern hemisphere.

Ragweed pollen: In wet season, the plant produces pollen grains in large measure. But as the humidity level rises to about 70 percent, the pollen settles around nearby area. It has been tested that the increase in carbon dioxide will increase the pollen production. From August to September, the plant is completely covered with pollen which is yellow in color.

Ragweed allergy is one of the causes for hay fever. Hay fever is also known as allergic rhinitis that causes allergic inflammation along the nasal airways.
