Home Remedies for Skin Discoloration
Skin discoloration is due to hormone changes, sun damage and melanin disorder. This may arise due to excess and frequent exposure to ultraviolet radiations. However, you can try out some home remedies for skin discoloration that will gradually help you to get back your original complexion and skin color.
Causes for Skin Discoloration:
The skin has many tiny blood vessels whose changes in the vascular system and the blood cause the skin to become discolored. Other causes for skin discoloration are listed below:
- Melasma that may be due to pregnancy, birth control pills and endocrine dysfunction or some genetic problems
- Sun exposure that can cause dark splotches on the hands and face
- Age spots or can be referred to liver spots as well which may be due to continuous exposure to sun damage.
Types of Skin Discoloration:
- Red discoloration of the skin is because of the blood supply to the capillaries or the tiny blood vessels. This can occur due to infection or allergies, burns and other kind of trauma. For example, at the time of exercises the body temperature rises and to cool the body, the capillaries expand and expose a huge volume of blood. This is the reason why the body turns redder.
- The skin become yellow, this is commonly known as jaundice.
- In certain condition, damaging or restricting of the blood flow causes the skin to turn white.
- Lack of oxygen in the body makes the skin turn blue.
- The skin turns orange due to some unusual amounts of carotenoids which are collected in the skin. The condition is known as carotenodermia.
- Finally if your skin turns black, than this means that the skin tissue is death due to complete lack of blood circulation.
There are number of home remedies that deal with making some paste and mask which are prepared from the natural ingredients. Some of the simple remedies are listed below:
- Orange peels are effective to help the skin regain its natural color. You first have to dry the peels and grind them to fine powder. After this add some raw milk to make a fine paste which should be applied directly on the affected skin. Allow this to stay on the skin for about half an hour and rinse them off with some lukewarm water.
- Gram flour too works well to reduce the skin discoloration. This contains some natural whitening agent that is quite effective. All you need to use two spoonfuls of gram flour and add a pinch of turmeric to it. Squeeze some few drops of lemon and finally add some milk drops of milk cream as well. Mix them and prepare a fine paste out of them. Finally apply this on the affected area and leave this for some time. For best results use on daily basis.
- Sandalwood powder is known to lighten the skin complexion. This is effective for skin discoloration too. For this you have to mix some of the powder with some tomato juice, lemon juice and cucumber juice. Mix all these ingredients properly and prepare a face mask. Leave this for some time and allow this to dry before you rinse them off.
- Another very good method that you can try at home to reduce the skin discoloration is use potatoes. These have some natural bleaching properties which can help you to reduce the dark patches. You simply have to rub a slice or the juice extract of the vegetable on the affected area. Continue this for a week at least to see some very good and desirable results.
- Milk powder, lemon juice, honey and almond oil can be used to reduce this discoloration. Just take a teaspoon of each ingredient and mix them all well. This should be applied regularly for duration of 10-15 minutes to lighten the skin complexion and help the skin get back its original skin color.
- Oatmeal can also help you give desired results. You combine some amount of oatmeal and tomato juice and prepare paste out of them. Use them on the darkened skin area and leave it for 20 minutes. Finally wash them off with some cold water.
- To body scrub you can try out sugar. These sugar grains are gentle and exfoliating and are effective to reduce the skin discoloration. All you need to mix the sugar with a half cup of oil such as almond oil and apply them onto your wet skin. Gently rub them on with a soft cloth or a loofah in circular movements. This is highly effective to lighten the skin color and reduce the skin discoloration.
- Baking soda is also effective to reduce the discoloration. You simply have to massage the skin with it to make the skin lighter and less discolored.
- You can also try out some very effective oil like tea tree oil and olive oil. The tea tree oil is effective to kill germs and bacteria whereas the olive oil is effective to remove the dead skin cells. Hence apply this to make your skin lighter and discolor free.
- Calamine lotion too can be effective to reduce the redness and irritation which can be responsible for skin discoloration.
