The splinter itself may or may not be noticeable but the area may bruise, bleed, swell, or cause pain. It may remain sore for 2 to 3 days after the removal of the object.

Home remedies for splinters are as follows:

  • A splinter is a tiny thing but can hurt so much. Do not ignore them as they often get infected and hurt even more. Eliminating them out by digging with a needle makes things worse. To take out splinters without pain try the following remedies:

  • Soak the area in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes. Water will make the wood softer and also causes it to swell. In some cases it will make the splinters to pop out of its own. Even if it does not it is much easier to take out the splinter when the skin is flexible and soft. This is one of the efficient home remedies for splinters.

  • Spread on a little bit of bacon fat on the affected area. Cover the area with an adhesive strip. Within a day or two the splinters will be gone. Bacon fat contains good amount of salt that helps to draw moisture from the skin and with that it draws the splinter out as well. This is also one of the successful home remedies for splinters.

  • Apply ice to the affected area to quickly ease the pain of a splinter. Rub the ice cube for few minutes. This will help in making the area numb and easier for the splinter to come out. This is one of the positive home remedies for splinters.

  • Another way to anesthetize the pain is to treat the area with an over the counter first aid spray. These sprays will help to disinfect the area so that it does not get infected. Spray will provide relief from the pain of splinters and considered to be one of the advantageous home remedies for splinters. This is a best-known home treatment for splinters.

  • To recover any residual pieces of wood, cover the affected area with a piece of gauze or cotton swab with the help of household glue. Allow the glue to get dry and then remove the gauze. The splinter will come out. This is also one of the intelligent home remedies for splinters.

  • You can also use tweezers. It is not always easy to get a splinter out with tweezers. Use tweezers that have grooves or ridges on the end. Improve it with little rubbing alcohol. Take hold of the splinter as close to skin as possible. Pull it firmly. Remove the splinter at the same angle as it penetrated the skin. It will help to prevent it from breaking off inside. Apply a little rubbing alcohol on to the skin to disinfect it. Also wash the area well with soap and water. This is also one of the productive home remedies for splinters to treat it at home.
