Sprains are the injury that occur due to the over stretching of the ligaments which connect the muscles to the bones. The main function of the ligaments is to hold the bones together. These are common injuries that more or less show similar kind of signs and symptoms and occur in different parts of the body. The sprain involves tearing of the ligaments which is the tough band in the fibrous tissue. Sprains occur in the ankle the most. However, strains involve tearing of the muscles which occurs in the fibrous cord of the tissue. These muscles connect to the bones and mostly occur in the lower back and in the back of the thigh and the hamstring muscle as well.

The only way to diagnose the problem is through X-rays which determines whether any fracture or any kind of bone injury may have taken place which results in such kind of pains like that of sprains. The extent of injury can also be determined by means of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

  • A highly beneficial way to relief the pain associated with sprains is by application of cold compress on the affected area and then cover with a bandage. This is useful to relief from any kind of sprain problem.
  • Another very simple way to treat the problem is that in the bandage used for sprain add a tablespoon of black coffee. This is an effective method to reduce the sprain problem.
