Home Remedies for Static Hair

No matter what you try out, sometimes your hair lifts and frizz out in every direction and you end up having static hair. These can be a really big problem especially during winters when the air is dry and cold that dehydrates the hair. Fortunately there are some home remedies for static hair and there is no requirement for you to go for a haircut or cover your hair with a hat!

Causes of Static Hair:

You might have noticed this kind of static hair in the dry seasons when the hair becomes frizzier and static. When hair gets static electricity it makes the hair unruly fly away and cause frizz ness. The main reason behind this is because the hair develops a positive electric charge and as such each strand of hair repel from each other. As we all know materials having the same charges repel from each other and this case the hair 'fly away' from each other. This is same like getting static in the body which you may have observed while touching any kind of metal objects. In winter the static electricity gets worse because heating your surrounding and the room pulls in the moisture from the air and out of the hair as well. In the summer season when the climate is more of humid, the small particles from the moist air collect in the hair and avoid building up the static electricity in the hair.

Below are some home made remedies for static hair which you can give a try.

  • The main culprit of the static hair is damaged and split ends hair. The first thing you can do is trim your hair for every six to eight weeks. This will eliminate the split ends and reduce your problem of having static hair. In addition to this you are likely to have any bad hair days.
  • Another reason for static hair is shampooing your hair too much. Shampoo does remove the dirt from the hair but also removes the essential oils and nutrients from the hair. If you are used to cleaning your hair everyday than avoid using shampoo on daily basis and simply rinse your hair. This will make your hair less frizzy and give a healthy look.
  • Avocados can give you some healthy benefits of hair too. This contains some very good fats which adds moisture to the hair and helps to maintain the natural balance. You simply have to smash some avocado and mix these with some tablespoon of lemon juice and use this directly on the hair and leave it for at least 30 minutes. Rinse this as normal and shampoo it. Follow this regime for once a week and continue it for the dry winter month.
  • Another very effective ingredient you can use for static hair is olive oil. This is a very natural way to keep the hair in a good condition. Shampoo your hair like you usually do and than use some olive oil which is slightly warm on the roots of the scalp and wait for sometime like 20-30 minutes. Allow the oil to penetrate into the scalp and rinse it properly. These treatments are effective and try out once a week for some really very good results.

Some other methods that you can try out to reduce and calm the electric locks on your hair are:

  • You may now know as to how you end up getting static hair and the reason behind this. Hence keep your hair moisturized by using some very deep condition and you are less likely to get static hair.
  • A "leave in" conditioner is also effective for your static hair. After you wash your hair, use this type of conditioner that will weigh down your hair and avoid any fly away.
  • Spray some anti- spray on the hairbrush or the comb you use and allow this to run through the hair. This is the best way to avoid any static hair.
  • You can always keep a soft cloth or sheet that will be very handy when you feel that your hair goes out of control. You can use this several times in a day and whenever you feel it's necessary.

In addition to the home remedies for static hair, try avoiding some hair products that contains harsh chemicals or alcohols like sodium lauryl sulfates. Refrain yourself from blow drying and other heating appliance every day as this may be another reason for your hair to become dry and result in damaging your hair.
