Home Remedies for Tanned Skin
A common problem in the summer is the skin tanning. This is a natural process and may result due to the exposure of the skin to these harmful radiations. In western countries, tanning may be used for enhancing the skin tone. However, these tanning may make the skin dry and it may peel too and also cause sunburns. This exposure to the harmful radiation can produce a pigment which is dark in color and is called melanin that is responsible for tanning. Nevertheless the pace at which your skin tans depends on human genes. Try out some home remedies for tanned skin which are can be easily prepared.
Causes of Tanned Skin
There are mainly two types of ultraviolet radiations that are responsible for the tanning. These are UVA and UVB. The latter types of radiations are responsible to burn the upper layer of the skin or epidermis and the first is the one that makes people tan. The UVA triggers the cells called melanocytes which are responsible for the production of melanin. This is a brown pigment that causes tanning of the skin. The body protects the skin from burning with the help of melanin. The more you have melanin in the body the more is the tendency for you to get tanned. Another factor that may result in your sun tanning is the more you do outdoor activities the more is the chances of you to get tan for e.g. swimming, hiking, skiing and may be some activities that may lead to tanning.
Some of the suggested home based remedies for tanned skin are listed below:
- Use the skin of peeled potato that prevent any kind of tanning. This is a common remedy to treat the skin. Use the potato peel to rub the affected area and continue this for at least few days. To get some effective results. However, this works well only in the case of mild tanning.
- Another common method for tanned skin is to use a mixture of potato and some amount of lemon juice. Apply this on the tanned area and leave this for at least for twenty minutes. Rinse this with some cold water and continue this as soon as you see the tanning vanishes.
- An old remedy to get rid of tanning is prepared by blending a mixture of sugar with some fresh lemon juice and few drops of glycerin that helps to treat some severe tanning. Use this as a natural scrubber and should be used externally. For some very good results, you can use a paste of this mixture and apply on the affected area.
- You can also prepare a paste out of Aloe Vera and some lemon juice and use this directly on the affected area. This can also be used as cleaning properties and keep this on the affected for at least twenty minutes before rinsing them off. This mixture cleans the skin pores and you can get relief within a short span of time. You can add some amount of olive oil to the above mixture to reduce the tanning of the skin.
- Honey and lime juice are effective for skin tanning as well. This will make the skin lighter and bring back your original skin complexion.
- You can also dab some solution of apple cider vinegar on the skin. And keep this for fifteen minutes and use some cold water to rinse this off. This is a best way to prevent sun tanning of the skin.
- You can also use some cucumber along with honey to soothe the problem of tanning.
- You can also get rid of tanning using apricot scrub and then after rinsing them off use a good moisturizer. This will help you to remove the tanning as soon as possible.
- You can also try out some milk powder and add some almond oil to this and directly apply on the affected area to reduce the tanning of the skin. This will improve the skin texture and help it to glow.
- A simple home based remedy can be prepared using a little of ground almonds, a half cup of oatmeal, some yogurt without any flavor, some buttermilk or milk and a few drops of lavender or chamomile. Blend this properly and prepare a paste out of them. Apply this directly on the body to get rid of the skin tanning. Keep this for 15 minutes before rinsing them off.
- Mustard oil is effective for the treatment of skin tanning. Rub this on the affected area as this will help in drawing the heat.
- You can also use baking powder in the bath tub and soak your body to soothe the sun burned skin. You can add some lavender or peppermint oil as well.
In addition to these home remedies for tanned skin, try to protect the skin from this harmful radiation as this can be dangerous and lead to many skin related diseases. Protect the skin by using some sunscreens and use an umbrella or a scarf before you go out in the sun. This will avoid from making your skin tanned.
