Ulcers are openings which are crater-like sores that form on the stomach lining. These are known as gastric ulcers that occur below the stomach and at the beginning of the small intestine in the region of duodenum. Hence, it is also known as duodenal ulcers. - Genital ulcers can be due to sexually transmitted disease.
Causes for Ulcers:
Initially, ulcers were thought to be caused by spicy food, stress, excess alcohol consumption. However, recently it was found that a bacterial infection in the stomach and upper intestine is responsible for peptic ulcers. The causes for mouth ulcers are bad diet, allergies, hormones, bacteria, some side-effects to a medicine, hereditary condition etc.
Symptoms of Ulcer:
Generally, there is no specific symptom that an individual can experience. Nevertheless, you may notice some signs such as:
- Burning stomach or gnawing in the abdomen which can be felt between the breastbone and navel. You may feel the pain slightly more after meal or in the middle of the night.
- Vomiting and nausea
- Loss of appetite
- Loss of weight
- Tiredness and weakness are symptoms which is common for bleeding ulcer.
- Blood in the stool or vomit which can be another sign for bleeding ulcer

- Bananas are some very good for the stomach ulcers as it contains some antacid properties. You can simply prepare a milk shake that helps to reduce the ulcer pain and cut-off the damage which is done to the tissues by the acids.
- Milk and honey too works well to soothe the pain associated with ulcers. Milk has the property to neutralize the acids to reduce the irritation caused by ulcer. To enhance this property, you can add some honey to the milk. However people with lactose intolerance and dairy sensitivity should not try this remedy.
- Cabbage and carrot juice are effective to treat for stomach ulcers.
- Yogurt too works well to reduce the inflammation in the stomach and is beneficial if taken after your regular meals.
For mouth ulcers, you can try out the following home remedies:
- Basil leaves are effective to treat mouth ulcer. You simply have to chew about 5-6 leaves and drink a glass of water. In addition to this, it prevents the foul smell of the mouth as well.
- Take a small amount of honey and coconut oil and gently massage the gums where the ulcers have occurred. This is highly effective for mouth ulcer treatment.
- Another useful remedy you can prepare at home is by adding some coriander seeds in a cup of water and slightly warm this. Use this water for the purpose of gargling and repeat this for 3-4 times a day. This is highly effective for mouth ulcers.
- An old method to cure mouth ulcer is to use a solution of hydrogen oxide and add some equal parts of water. Add a teaspoon of salt and a pinch of baking soda to it. However, do not swallow this, but use it for rinsing only.
- For an instant relief of mouth ulcer apply toothpaste on the affected area. Use this for 2-3 times a day to treat the mouth ulcers.
- You can prepare a paste of Indian gooseberry and apply this on the ulcers. Apply this for 2-3 times a day to speed up the healing process. Add some honey to the paste as well.
- A very simple way to treat the ulcer in the mouth is by gargling alternately with cold and warm water.
For genital ulcers, you can try out the following remedies which are listed below:
- A powerful skin soothing agent is the aloe Vera which can simply be applied on the affected area. This is helpful for immediate relief and release the discomfort.
- Baking soda is also effective to reduce such kind of irritations. Simply use a cotton ball or swab and pat the soda on the affected area.
- In addition to these, include plenty of green leafy vegetables and cabbage and also include plenty of fruits in the diet.
Tips and preventive measures for ulcers:
- The first thing you can do is eat wisely and drink plenty of water. Try to indulge in small meals and have this frequently and never overeat as this may one reason for the problem.
- Fiber foods are beneficial to treat ulcers. Include high rich processed food like grains and white flour are all effective for neutralizing stomach acids.
- Avoid strong tea and carbonated beverages, spicy and oily food.
In addition to the above home remedies for ulcers, follow a healthy lifestyle and indulge yourself in regular and moderate exercises. And yes do avoid drinking alcohol and smoking.
