Nut Allergy Home Remedy

A common type of food allergy is the tree nut allergy. It is due to hypersensitivity to some dietary substances from some nuts which include Brazil nuts, almonds, filberts or hazelnuts, chestnuts, pine nuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, walnuts, pistachios. Nut allergy causes reaction in the immune system which leads to some severe symptoms that are mentioned below.

  • A significant symptom of nut allergy is anaphylaxis. It is a reaction that causes severe breathing difficulties, shock, and cardiac arrythmai.
  • Skin symptoms like hives and welts may also occur.
  • Asthma is another symptom of nut allergy.

Walnuts and cashews are the most common types of tree nuts that cause a number of allergic reactions. It is estimated that 90 percent of the children are diagnosed with nut allergies once in their life time.

Nut allergy is classified under type 1 allergies which is also known as contact allergies. It should be noted that nut allergy is different from peanut allergy because the latter does not belong to the nut family. However, the symptoms of both the allergies may be same.

Though there are no perfect home remedies for nut allergy or tree nut allergies, some methods and remedies can be used to lessen the symptoms. Some of them are given below:

  • Children experience more nut allergies. The best way to treat nut allergy is to keep a check on the symptoms that is mentioned above.
  • The most effective way is to keep food items having nuts as their ingredients, away from the children's diet.
  • One of the symptoms of nut allergy is swelling of the tongue. You can wipe your tongue with a swab dipped in a solution made of water and salt.
  • Another home remedy for nut allergy is to drink a glass of water with 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar. This is an excellent method for all types of allergies and infection and it also reduces the swelling of the tongue.
  • Consumption of food rich in vitamin C helps to build up the immune system and thus helps in treating the allergy.
  • 500 ml mixture of carrot juice and beet or a simple cucumber juice or carrot juice helps from any kind of allergic reaction caused by different food or nuts.
  • For an upset stomach or in case of vomiting tendencies, you can take one tbsp. of cider vinegar with one tbsp. of honey in a glass of water. This is a common home remedy for nut allergy.
  • Before consuming any purchased grocery, pay a close attention to the ingredients and food labels.
  • The skin rash that may occur due to the nut allergy can be treated by washing the infected area with chamomile tea. Take 2-3 tsp of fresh and dried chamomile flowers in a cup of boiling water. After 15-20 minutes strain the decoction. This is an effective home remedy for nut allergy.
  • Olive oil has therapeutic properties. Applying it to the infected area would penetrate the skin and help in curing the rash.
  • Aloe Vera is another simple home remedy that helps curing the skin rash.
  • A home remedy for diarrhea that may result due to nut allergy are mash a ripe banana and mix it with tamarind pulp and a pinch of salt. This home remedy for nut allergy should be taken twice day.
  • A paste of curry leaves taken with 1 tsp. honey helps is another remedy for diarrhea, one of the symptoms of nut allergy.
  • Drinking a fresh cup of pomegranate juice or mixing it with a cup of sugarcane juice for about 3-4 times is another home remedy for nut allergy.
  • Mango seeds after drying in the shade for 3-4 days are powdered. Take half a teaspoon of this powder with honey or sugar.
  • For nasal congestion, one of the simplest home remedy is to heat a teaspoon of cardamom seeds. Allow the infected person to inhale the smoke.
  • To a cup of tomato juice add fresh tsp of chopped garlic, and 1/2 tsp of hot sauce, 1 tsp of lemon juice and a pinch of salt for taste. Heat all the ingredients and drink it hot. This is one of finest home remedy for nut allergy that leads to nasal congestion.

Nut allergy can cause a reaction called anaphylaxis. This is the major cause of death for allergy sufferers. This reaction may cause the airway to constrict and there may be breathing difficulty. The blood pressure can also drop to a fatal level. Therefore home remedy for nut allergy cannot be the only measure for treatment. Therefore it is necessary to seek medical help in treating and testing the allergy. Some of the remedies can come handy for treating symptoms of nut allergy such as swelling of the tongue, diarrhea, nasal congestion etc.
