Pink Eye Allergy Home Remedy
Conjunctivitis, commonly known as "pink eye" occurs when the membranes of the eyes covering the whites turn red and there is also an inflammation on the inner eyelids. It is mainly due to allergic reaction that may be either bacterial or viral. The membranes are very sensitive and react to a range of bacteria and virus. This form of infection although common in childhood it occurs in adults too. It should be noted that there is no change in vision due to pink eye. There are some useful home remedies for pink allergy, a common ailment that affects most of us.

The common types of bacteria that cause this allergy are staphylococci and streptococci. In most cases it affects only one eye but may easily spread to the other eye.
Viral pink eye is known as the pink eye and in most cases it is associated with infection of common cold, sore throat and the respiratory tract. Like bacterial conjunctivitis, it starts with one eye and the infection may spread to the other eye.
Another cause of the pink eye allergy is due to the stress in the small nerves of the eyes. This results a burning sensation of the eye-ball.
Pink Eye Symptoms
- The eyes become pink to reddish color because of the inflammation. And hence called pink eye allergy.
- Two common symptoms that are always associated with conjunctivitis are itching and irritation.
- The eyes develop a tearing symptom because it helps in the relief.
- Discharge that can be yellow or green and often stick the eyelids together. It can flow from down sides of the eyes.
- Eye swelling and distressing are also common symptoms.
- Edema is the pale water swelling of the pink eye.
- Sometime when the infected eye is pointed far up or down it becomes extremely painful and irritable.
Pink eye infection is communicable and it is passed from one another due to lack of some hygiene measures. Both viral and bacterial pink eye can be resolved without treatment. Ointment and antibiotics can be used if there is no improvement within three days.
In tropical areas, during summer people are prone to this pink eye allergy. Some of the pink eye allergy home remedies are given below:
- Salt water can be used and applied when the symptom of the eye infection occur first. Boil the water in a pan and set aside to warm. A considerable amount of salt is added to the water. Use cotton balls and note that it absorbs as much salt as it can. Use this to wipe the infected eyes and it also helps in disinfecting them.
- Take one teaspoon of dried chamomile flowers to a cup of boiled water. Before straining keep it for ten minutes. After cooling you can use it as eyewash. In some cases you can also use it to compress. This is one of the best known pink eye allergy home remedy.
- Another natural home remedy is to use elderberry blossom tea. This can be used to wash away the dirt present in the infected eyes.
- Fennel seeds are boiled; this can also be used to wash the affected eyes. This helps in reducing the burning sensation and redness in the eye.
- One of the most common home remedy for eye allergy is to put one or two drops of honey on your eyes directly or in two cups of boiling water, add three tbsp of honey, after the honey dissolves you can use it as an eye wash. Honey has anti bacterial properties which help in soothing the eye allergy.
- Warm (tepid) milk can also be used as an eye wash or as a compress.
- Potato can act as an astringent which helps in healing the infection to a greater extent. Take a slice of raw potato and place it on the affected eye for twenty minutes. This can be done for three consecutive nights for better result.
- The best home remedy for pink eye allergy is to use a solution of turmeric powder. This can be used as a warm compress by adding 2 tsp of turmeric powder to a cup of boiled water.
- Another home remedy for pink eye allergy is by using aloe vera juice. Soak a cloth with the juice and place it on the infected eye.
- A soothing eye wash is made by mixing one tsp of baking soda in two cups of water.
- Powder root bark can be also used in tea for relieving the eyes.
- Castor oil is one of a traditional method of pink eye allergy home remedy. One drop of castor oil can be used directly into the infected eyes.
There is no proper medication for it but some home remedy for pink eye allergy can be done to soothe the pain and the swelling.
