Strawberry Allergy Home Remedies
Strawberry allergy is a type 1 allergy also called contact allergy. Thousand of proteins are found in strawberries and only one or more of them are responsible for the allergic reaction. It is still unknown why only some of the proteins are considered harmful by the immune system.
The immune system recognizes those proteins that causes allergy and initiates an allergic response that protects the body. It produces IgE (immunoglobulin E) to neutralize the protein. If the person is exposed to the fruit again, the IgE stimulate the body cells and produces histamines.
Researchers from the well-known University of Lund in Sweden have found that the protein responsible for the allergic reaction is not found in white strawberries, however it is found in the red strawberries and it seems it is among other proteins that are responsible for the red color in strawberries. It was also found that the molecular structure of the protein allergen has some similarities to the birch pollen allergen. Nevertheless, a person allergic to birch pollen may also be allergic to strawberries but not vice versa is not true.

- The release of histamines in the stomach may result in nausea, cramps, stomach aches, vomiting, and diarrhea, intestinal pains.
- Wheezing, difficulty in breathing, bronchial spasms may be due to the release of histamines in the lungs.
- In chronic case, if the histamines are released into the blood stream then it results in anaphylactic shock and proves to be fatal.
